On December 30, 2024 the Rotary Club of Multinational Manila (RIMM) represented by President Raymund, Honorary Rotarian Carlito “Jun” Baurile, Jr. (Philippine Army Reserve Command) and his wife Malou distributed 35 bags of 5kg rice to the families affected by the landslide that occurred in October 24, 2024 in Barangay Bugaan West in Laurel, Batangas.
Piles of mud and logs are evident in the low lying areas of the barangay and the long stretch of the shoreline of Taal Lake.
There are no major illegal activities of deforestation in the area. The 2 days of intense continuous precipitation caused the soil on the mountain slopes to soften and erode, bringing down trees and water to the low-lying areas.
RIMM also gave assorted toys for the children of the affected families. The children were excited to choose the toys that were brought along.
