Paglinang (cultivation) Project was conceived in July 2022, intended particularly to be just a Visual Arts Workshop. However, due to several unforeseen factors such as the delay in project fund release, technical issues in our club’s bank account, some internal difficulties with our club operations, changes in the needs and mind set of the beneficiaries, the project was redesigned to be more attuned to the changing time and placed more focus on the multi-interests of the beneficiaries. Thus Paglinang became a multi-disciplinary Arts workshop. Namely: Visual Arts, Dance, Theater, Poetry, and Puppetry.
The workshop was held on April 6,7 and 8, taking advantage of the long break during the Lenten season. Visual arts workshop was first in the line, under the theme of protecting the environment. Workshop topics were: Basic Elements and Principles of Design, Composition, Basic Painting in Dry Materials, then with wet paints. This was conducted at the Mondejar Art Studio : 137 Puting Kahoy, Silang, Cavite, a more conducive place to do the workshops. President Lito Mondejar at the time of the year with the help of Concerned Artist of the Philippines, Cavite Chapter Resident Visual Artist and Samahang Kartunista ng Pilipinas Member Ted Camahalan served as the resource persons.
April 22 and 29 were devoted to Dance and Theater Workshops facilitated by Elvira Bueta, a veteran theater practitioner and a member of both Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and CCP’s Teatro Pilipino. A song interpreted in dance was composed by the participants and was presented as the culminating activity.
The third phase, held on June 3, was a round up of the painting workshop in the morning and Poetry workshop in the afternoon. Here, participants were able to paint still life fruits from imagination in full color rendition on canvas. The workshop was facilitated by Ateneo Arts Awardee Henrielle Baltazar Pagkaliwangan and again with veteran artist Ted Camahalan. Steeve Mark Manzano, Resident Spoken Word artist of Concerned Artists of the Phil. Cavite Chapter, facilitated the Poetry Workshop. He first gave a short demonstration on how to make brewed coffee, then the participants were asked to capture their experience in poetic stanzas. All the workshops were held at the Mondejar Studio in Puting Kahoy, Silang, Cavite which is just a short distance from Tartaria, the Barangay where the participants are residing.
The workshop attendants were usually 15 to 22 school students per class, ranging from Grade 1 to 10.
The workshop was funded with our club and about 50% of the total cost of P83,400 was provided by the district grant, enabling the project to buy painting supplies, food and all the materials needed.
